Nordic Vikings has now arrived to Beijing

The New Asia League Ice Hockey Team arrived earlier today in Beijing where they have started to establish themselves for the season who starts already this Saturday and Sunday 24 and 25 September with Derby Games against Harbin and Qiqihar.

Before the League start we have get a view from the Sport Manager about the Intense Competition in the League.

The Current Situation in The Asia League Ice Hockey Team, Reported by General Manager Shin Larsson

Japanese Teams
Kokudo – Tokyo based Team and Last Years Champions. They have been the team to beat the last 11-12 years and they will be strong this year again.

Oji Eagles – Hokkaido based Team, where i played myself the last two seasons. Last year they won the all japan tournament but lost in the semi’s of the Asian League to rivals Cranes.

Nippon Paper Cranes – Another Hokkaido based Team, reached the play off final last year and also a real contender for the title. Favorites along with Kokudo,Oji Eagles

Icebucks – This is a team that is based in both Nikko and Kobe who has involved former NHL Player Shjon Podein in the team and will certainly give it a more canadian style. Hard to predict for the moment how much that could mean but it will certainly have a good effect on the Team.

Korean Teams
Anyang Halla Winia – Seoul Based. Last year this team was one of the positive surprises in the League with their Finnish Influence..This year they could line up with 4 players that have played for the Czeck Republic National Team. They have probably the best first line in the whole league and it will be intresting to see how far that can take them.

Kongwon Land – This is a new Team, based an hour from Seoul, For the moment we don’t know much about the team but its said that they will bring in 4 canadian players…Not easy to predict them.

Chinese Teams
Harbin – from Northern China, last year 7th placed. Are going to have a finnish/swedish coach Jari Koskinen and a new nordic Line in place before the season starts..Question here if the coach could build a team of this group with less than 3 weeks to the season starts.

Qiqihar – from Northern China, last year 8th placed, had a real young “next generation” team already last year.. Has gotten a swedish coach this year and a nordic Line… All players are going to be a year older this season and the questions is if that is enough.

Nordic Vikings – Have gotten the team together and played 5 exhibition games so far with good results against mainly 1st division swedish teams. It will be a tough start of the season for this team and time will tell if the Vikings can go all the way to the title.
